Regina: a | — | cocktail experience

from rex at the royal’s dining & beverage manager, joshua scheid:

a once a month, immersive evening of cocktails.

intriguing & playful | sipped & savored | here & gone

Thirsty?

right back at you.

parched?

say ‘salve’ to our queen of cocktails, Regina—stirring up surprises once a month in rex at the royal’s intimate mezzanine cocktail lounge.

Regina is a once-a-month, menu-driven cocktail tasting. four cocktails, available for one night only, make up the entirety of the exclusive beverage menu and playfully engage with the evening’s theme—exploring the boundaries of “cocktail” with culinary techniques, interactive play, and an often zany, sometimes brainy sense of humor that gets right down on all fours to beg you… to never take Regina more seriously then she takes herself.

  • …satisfying, isn’t it?

  • …open up and say ‘ah’

  • …because after spending hours melting Swedish Fish, I still don’t

Regina: a corny cocktail experience

In partnership with Nixta Licor de Elote, a look at 20th century America as it took the industrial revolution's assembly line and ran with it--applying the philosophy of predictability through repeatability beyond manufactured products to the commodified notion of "experience," valuing consistency like never before. Nothing exemplifies this total shift in the very concepts of experience and identity better than the ubiquity of corn-the agricultural product and the style of humor which typified the situational comedy (one of the few truly American art forms).

Samantha Jones and Julia Sugarbaker walk into a bar, and...
well, you know the rest.

The four cocktails - each featuring Nixta Licor de Elote, a spirit made from corn kernels prepared in the Indigenous culinary practice of nixtamalization - utilize the fresh flavors of sweet corn as a through-line which connects the living room commedia dell'arte with a versatility through homogeneity mirroring the seeming infinity of use for corn.

A TENDER COCKTAIL EXPERIENCE

For June, Regina invites you to play with your drink. Making up perhaps her most innovative menu yet, Regina's tactile creations explore qualities of softness and sensitivity - quite literally, as each requires your touch in order to be consumed.

Put the delicate in delicacy with cocktails that melt in your hand and in your mouth as Regina offers a whimsical and thoughtful look at the power of these qualities to subvert and resist the gender opression for which they have often been coopted.
