On Wednesday, November 5, Rex at the Royal comes alive with the vibrant tastes, scents, and stories of Nigeria! Culinary storyteller Ozoz Sokoh joins forces with Chef Angie Brown for an unforgettable evening in celebration of Ozoz’s new book, Chop Chop: Cooking the Food of Nigeria. From the first pour at the bar to the last shared bite, guests will journey through four family-style courses layered with the warmth and brightness of peppers, the smoky depth of yaji (sometimes called suya spice), and the comforting richness of stews and sauces that have traveled across generations. Drinks will be available à la carte to pair with each dish. The evening begins at 6:00 PM with time to mingle, followed by the seated dinner and conversation. Tickets are $115 per person and include a signed copy of the book, dinner, tax, and tip. We can’t wait to celebrate the traditions of West African cuisine with you!
Cookbooks & Convos, presented by Sisterly Love Collective, is a vibrant culinary experience celebrating the incredible women shaping Philadelphia’s food scene. Our mission is simple yet powerful: to empower and honor the female chefs and authors whose talents keep the city’s culinary culture thriving.
Recognizing the enduring charm of the beloved “The Book and The Cook” festival (1984–2007), Sisterly Love Collective set out to rekindle its spirit in a contemporary format. Cookbooks & Convos carries this tradition forward with a fresh twist—a celebration of culinary excellence and an invitation to connect, learn, and be inspired by the rich tapestry of women’s contributions to the culinary world. ALL ARE WELCOME!
The 2025 series will run from October 27 to November 10, featuring special dinners, author meet-and-greets, and engaging culinary events.
